Hungry Michael
Feb 25, 2024This afternoon I picked up my youngest Chickens π£π£ from CVS and we went to the gas station and while Montana was pumping gas a man walked up to my window and asked for $8. I asked him what he wanted to buy and he said, "A meatball sub and a mountain dew." I asked if he was hungry and he said yes. His hands were shaking.
I told him I would buy him a sandwich. We were on our way to Shaws (supermarket) and I would buy him a sandwich and bring it back to him. "How long will it take?" he asked (LOL ππ - touche'.) I said, "Not long, maybe 25 minutes because we have some shopping to do." I asked his name and he said, "Michael." "Of course it is," I thought silently as I smiled.
Michael is the name of my baby brother who passed away when I was five. He is with me always and Michaels cross my path many times every single day. I also live next door to a Michael and across the street from a Michael (who's married to one of my BFF's).
While at Shaws I searched high and low for a ready-made meatball sub. No dice. I asked Fred, the wonderful manager of the seafood department who's been giving me free salmon skin for 7 years. That's another story for another time. ππ I told Fred what was going on and he said, "Him? He was in the store for hours - and we kicked him out." I said, "He has a story we know nothing about. He's hungry. I am buying him a sandwich."
Fred and I decided that Michael might like the pulled chicken salad sandwich, and I went with that.
The Chickens π£π£ and I drove back to where we met Michael and he was nowhere to be found. I went into the gas station and inquired and the gas station owner said he'd taken the bus home.
My Chickens π£π£and I took Michael's sandwich home and tomorrow I will go back - with my Chickens π£π£ - and give it to him.
As we drove home Dakota said, "That was nice of you, Mom." "It's the right and kind thing to do and I get as much or more joy from this than Michael does, " I said. "The reason I bought him a sandwich instead of giving him money is so that he would eat and not spend it on alcohol."
Then we talked about how everyone is doing the very best they can and how we are all sparks of all - that - is/The Universe, and we are all the same and are all one, and how some people lose their way for a while, and they are doing the best they can.
Hungry Michael has already given us more than we will give him tomorrow. What does this story give to you?
