"I Don't Want a Deal."
Mar 06, 2024
I was in NYC with a dear friend and was showing her my old digs in Union Square. We had a Prana Power Yoga β¨ππ»β¨ on the corner of 17th and Broadway for over a decade. My HH and our 2, 3, and then 5 Chickens π£π£π£π£π£ and I would schlep from Newton, Massachusetts to NYC every weekend (EVERY WEEKEND) to build our brand, teach and manage. Also to follow our highest excitement and have fun. β¨πππ It was fun. We stayed at the W Union Square where the hotel staff became like family. Our Chickens π£π£π£π£π£ played in the Union Square park as we chatted with other parents. Union Square was our neighborhood every weekend for over a decade.
I was sooooo excited to show my friend around! Here's this! Here's that! Here's where we got our green juice! Here's where we went to get groceries! Here's where we read books (Barnes and Noble) overlooking the square! And...here's the farmer's market! Oh my, this farmers market is something. And always full of tens of thousands of people. Quite extraordinary.
My friend found an artist she loved. She began chatting with him about all things (I was giggling, because that was usually me; however, I kept my mouth shut, for a minute...) and then she decided that she would buy two paintings, one for her daughter, one for herself. That's when I STOPPED keeping my mouth shut:
"May she have a deal? May she have $5 off because she is buying two?" I asked with a smile.
My friend piped in before the artist could answer, "I don't want a deal." Then she went on to say how much she respects and appreciates artists and their art, etc. Yikes. I had never thought about it "that" way. I was always very close with my Mama (maternal grama) who was all about yard sales and ...getting a deal. She could and would negotiate with the best of 'em. Always with love; nevertheless, a relentless negotiator. Mama passed this down to yours truly and it is helpful when negotiating leases for yoga studios and restaurants and writing deals; however, my friend had a point. An excellent point. I agreed with everything she said about artists and art. So why did I go for the deal for her? Ahhhh, it was sloppy lazy thinking, and action. It was not and is not in alignment with my beliefs and perspectives in this now moment, so guess what, I made a decision in that moment. I chose it.
What would you like to choose right now, to be more in alignment with your authentic self? I didn't make a process out of it, the process was the "ah ha" moment and the decision. Done.
You are more powerful and more sparkly than you know. Choose to use the power of illusion. Reality is an illusion. A projection of what you believe. What beliefs do you continue to carry around that are not yours? (Belief thief). I was carrying around a belief that wasn't mine. I was being sloppy and lazy and acting on it, with a smile; nevertheless, no bueno. Ahhhh, I feel so much lighter. It feels heavy to carry what is not yours.
